CIS South Central Texas has occasional vacancies for the position of Project Director which is a campus-based, general social work position. A Project Director is committed to the CIS mission of “helping students succeed in school and make positive life choices” and is responsible for working with at-risk students within the public school system to achieve that mission.
True to the “community” in Communities in Schools, Project Directors work in collaboration with school faculty, administrators, and community members to support student opportunities, while maintaining outreach to families through parenting skills workshops and home visits. Other job duties include providing students with one-on-one attention through services such as student counseling and academic assistance, as well as managing students in group activities both on campus and during field trips. Regarding health and social services not directly provided by CIS, Project Directors follow up on referrals to partner agencies.
Essential qualifications include at least a Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, counseling, psychology, or other social science field. Applicants should have the ability be energetic, enthusiastic, and positive in a setting that may, at times, be emotionally demanding. Furthermore, social work experience is helpful, and the ability to effectively communicate in Spanish to bilingual or Spanish-speaking students and families is an advantage.
Potential vacancies are most likely during summer months leading up to the school year. Project Directors work in accordance with the school calendar of the campus to which they are assigned, typically taking school holidays, and working the additional months of June and August. A 40-hour week is expected. Salary is commensurate with experience.
