June 2011

The 2010 2011 assessment will measure the Project Success program’s effectiveness based upon the following criteria:

1. A Demographic breakdown of students we served:
 Number of students served, total and number of seniors
 Ethnicity
 Free and Reduced Lunch status

2. High School Performance Measures:

 Enrollment and persistence in Project Success (attrition rate)
 High School GPA
 How many times students attended group (average by school)
 On time graduation from high school

3. College Transition Measures:

 Application to one or more postsecondary institutions
 Completion of SAT/ACT by May 2011
 Documented scholarship and grant awards
 Completion of FAFSA
 Independent status on FAFSA: dependency override or McKinney Vento certification

4. College Going Measures:
 Enrollment in postsecondary training or college program
 Receipt of financial aid

A Demographic Breakdown of Who We Served in 2010 - 2011

Schools with the highest senior populations, in order; this total includes all seniors served from the beginning of the Fall semester:
1. NBHS - 18
2. Marion - 10

We served 29 seniors in total during the 2010 2011 year.

Ethnicity:

Overall:
Hispanic – 43%
Caucasian – 49%
African American – 8%

Free and Reduced Lunch status:

Marion: 57%
NBHS: 83%

Spotlight: Why is Free and Reduced Lunch status important? While students can be enrolled in CIS for a variety of reasons, a verification of the family’s/and or student’s income is important because being on Free and Reduced Lunch opens the door to fee waivers for both the SAT and ACT exams. Receiving a fee waiver has a domino effect on the entire college application process, as once the student receives a testing fee waiver, he or she can then apply to up to four universities for free. While the income guidelines for fee waivers set by both College Board (SAT) and ACT are more generous than the Free and Reduced Lunch guidelines (allowing for independent judgment on the counselor’s part), students who are on free and reduced are guaranteed a waiver if they request one. Project Success facilitates this process as the students did not know about the option of using a fee waiver for testing. During our group work, we are able to actively send our students to the counseling office for a waiver and have them return to group to register for exams on the spot.

HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMANCE MEASURES:
 Enrollment and persistence in Project Success
 High School GPA (average, by school)
 How many times students attended group
 On time graduation from high school

Enrollment and Persistence:
For our purposes, attrition is defined as “inactive” status when: a student fails to attend sessions; withdraws from the high school to attend an alternative program; graduates early (December graduation.). This year, we had two early graduates at Marion High School and two at NBHS.

1. Marion HS: A total of 10 seniors finished the program. Two students graduated in December.

2. New Braunfels High School: 18 seniors, with none inactive by the end of first semester. All seniors finished the program. Two seniors graduated early.

• Inactive students are those who graduated early (December 2010), left the high school for another school, or chose to not attend the program meetings.

High School GPA:

MHS: 3.01
NBHS: 2.75

Attendance: Average number of times students attended group, by school:

MHS: 11
NBHS: 14

On time graduation:

100% of Project Success students graduated at all campuses.

College Transition Measures:
 Application to one or more postsecondary institutions
 Completion of SAT/ACT by May 2011
 Documented scholarship and grant awards
 Completion of FAFSA
 Independent status on FAFSA: dependency override or McKinney Vento certification
